Primitive wildlife solutions

Bats in the attic are a regular call along the Lake Wales Ridge, and bat removal in Dundee, FL has to follow state law. Florida protects its bats. Nobody can trap them, poison them or seal them inside. What we do is find every gap they use, put one-way exits on the active ones, and close the building up once they leave on their own. Primitive Wildlife Solutions is licensed and insured, and we work on homes and businesses across Polk County.

Most people hear bats before they ever see one. Scratching or squeaking at dusk. A sharp smell near the eaves. Dark droppings piled under a gable vent or stuck to a windowsill. Older houses near the middle of town and brand-new builds in the subdivisions off US-27 both get colonies, because a bat only needs a narrow crack to get in. If you are hearing activity now, call (904) 729-6285 and we will set up a free inspection.

The Bats That Move Into Dundee Homes

Three species account for nearly every house colony we see in this part of Florida. The Brazilian free-tailed bat is the big one for colonies. It packs into tight spaces under roof tiles, behind fascia and inside wall voids, sometimes by the hundreds. The evening bat and the Southeastern myotis show up in smaller groups, often in attics and soffit gaps.

Dundee gives them a lot to work with. Citrus groves, open water and scrub land all feed insects, and bats eat insects all night. A warm attic close to that food is exactly what a colony is looking for. That is good for your yard and bad for your ceiling.

Bat Removal Dundee FL Residents Can Count On

Our job is to get every bat out and make sure none can get back in. We do not guess. We watch the house at dusk, find where they exit, and build the plan around what we actually see.

  • Full inspection. Roofline, soffits, vents, chimney, flashing and the attic itself.
  • Seal the quiet gaps. Every opening the bats are not using gets closed first.
  • One-way devices. Exits go on the active openings so bats can fly out but not back in.
  • Final seal. Once activity stops, the devices come down and those openings get sealed for good.
  • Cleanup. Guano and soiled insulation are removed if needed.

Why the Calendar Decides When We Start

Florida bat maternity season runs from April 15 to August 15. During that window, exclusion devices may not be used. Mothers leave at night to feed, but their pups cannot fly yet. Put a one-way exit up in June and you trap flightless young inside to die in your walls. That creates a smell problem and breaks the law.

So if you call us in May, we still come out. We inspect, confirm the species and entry points, seal the openings that are clearly not in use, and schedule the exclusion for after August 15. Fall and winter through mid-April is when most of our bat work gets finished.

Where Bats Get In on Ridge Houses

Building styles here vary a lot. A ranch home from the citrus days sits a few streets from a stucco house built last year, and each one fails in its own way. These are the spots we check first:

  • Barrel and concrete tile roofs, where the end tiles and ridge caps leave open pockets.
  • Gaps where soffit panels meet the fascia board.
  • Gable vents with torn or missing screen.
  • Roof returns and the corners where two rooflines meet.
  • Loose flashing around chimneys and plumbing stacks.

Cleaning Up After the Colony Leaves

Bat guano builds up fast. It soaks into insulation, stains drywall and carries a strong ammonia smell in summer heat. After the exclusion is complete, we can remove soiled insulation, clean and sanitize the affected area and get the attic ready for new insulation. Our attic cleanup and wildlife removal page explains what that work involves. Sealing is part of every job too, and the same exclusion methods keep squirrels, rats and raccoons out of the openings we close.

A Bat Inside Your Living Space

Sometimes a single bat ends up in a bedroom or hallway. Do not touch it, with or without gloves. Rabies is present in Florida wildlife, and bats are one of the carriers. Close interior doors to keep it in one room, keep kids and pets out, and call us. If anyone in the house has had direct contact with the bat, call your doctor or the county health department right away. A bat in the living area often means a colony nearby, so we will check the attic and roofline while we are there.

Bat Removal Questions from Dundee Homeowners

Why do so many bats show up around Dundee?

Food and shelter sit close together here. Lakes, citrus groves and the scrub land toward the state park east of town produce plenty of night insects. Older homes have worn soffits and tile gaps, and newer ones sometimes have unfinished trim details. A bat colony looks for a warm, dark space near feeding grounds, and many Dundee rooflines offer exactly that.

Can you remove bats from my home in June or July?

Not with exclusion devices. Bat maternity season runs April 15 through August 15, and Florida does not allow exclusion during that time because flightless pups would be sealed inside. We can still inspect, identify the entry points and seal unused gaps in summer, then finish the one-way exclusion as soon as the season ends.

Do you also handle bats in Lake Hamilton and Haines City?

Yes. We cover Dundee and the neighboring towns along US-27 and the Scenic Highway, including Lake Hamilton, Haines City, Winter Haven and Lake Wales. Our Haines City wildlife removal team handles the same bat work there. You can also see every service we offer locally on our Dundee wildlife removal page.

How do I know if I have bats or something else in the attic?

Timing and droppings tell most of the story. Bats are active right around sunset and again before dawn, and you may hear chattering rather than heavy footsteps. Bat droppings crumble into a shiny powder when crushed, while rodent droppings stay hard. Our free inspection confirms what is up there before any work starts.
