If you hear scratching in the walls at dusk or find dark droppings stuck to the siding under a gable vent, you likely have a bat colony. Primitive Wildlife Solutions handles bat removal in St. Cloud, FL the only way Florida allows: one-way exclusion, done in the right season, followed by sealing every gap the bats used.
Licensed & insured. Free inspection. Humane removal and sealing.
Bats are protected in this state. You cannot trap them, poison them or spray them out of an attic. What you can do is let them leave on their own and make sure they cannot get back in. That is the whole job, and doing it right takes a careful inspection and a lot of patient sealing work.
Why Bats Settle Into St. Cloud Homes
St. Cloud sits on the south shore of East Lake Tohopekaliga, and open water means insects. Bats feed over the lake, the marina at St. Cloud Lakefront Park and the wetlands on the east side of town, then look for a warm, dry roost close by. A roofline with a loose soffit or a gap at the gable gives them exactly that.
The older homes in the historic downtown along 13th Street (US-192) tend to have the most openings. Decades of settling leave gaps at fascia boards, attic vents and where additions meet the original roof. Newer houses are not immune, though. We find bats behind loose ridge vent caps and in barrel tile edges on recently built homes too.
Signs of Bats in Your Attic or Walls
Most homeowners notice bats by what they leave behind, not by seeing them. Look for these:
- Guano. Small, dark, crumbly droppings piled under an entry point or scattered on attic insulation.
- Rub marks. Brown, greasy staining around a crack where bats squeeze in and out every night.
- Sound at dusk and dawn. Chirping or rustling in a wall or ceiling right around sunset.
- A strong ammonia smell. Urine and guano build up fast in a closed attic in Florida heat.
- Bats flying out at sunset. Stand outside and watch the roofline for ten minutes after dark.
Bat Removal St Cloud FL Homeowners Can Trust to Follow the Law
Florida bat maternity season runs from April 15 to August 15. During those months, exclusion devices may not be used, because flightless pups would be sealed inside and die in your attic. We still inspect during that window, map out every entry point and seal the secondary gaps the colony is not using, so the exclusion goes faster once the season ends.
From mid-August through mid-April, we install one-way exclusion devices on the active openings. The bats drop out at night to feed and cannot crawl back in. Once we confirm the colony is out, we pull the devices and close those last gaps for good. The species we deal with most here are the Brazilian free-tailed bat, the evening bat and the Southeastern myotis. If you also hear heavier movement in the attic during the day, it may be a different animal; our squirrel removal page explains the difference.
What the Exclusion Process Looks Like
We start with a full inspection of the house, from the ground up to the ridge. Bats can fit through a gap about the width of your thumb, so we check every vent, soffit seam, chimney flashing and roof-to-wall joint. You get a clear explanation of what we found and how we plan to fix it.
After the bats are gone, the attic often needs attention. Guano on insulation carries odor and fungal spores, and we offer cleanup and sanitation so you are not left breathing that in. Our attic wildlife removal service covers that work. The sealing itself is part of our broader wildlife exclusion program, which keeps other animals out as well.
Never Handle a Bat Found Inside
Rabies is present in Florida wildlife, and bats are one of the carriers. If a bat ends up in your living room, keep people and pets away from it, close the interior doors and open a window or exterior door to that room. Do not pick it up, even with gloves. If anyone may have touched it or woken up with it in the room, contact your doctor and the county health department. Then call us at (904) 729-6285 so we can find how it got in.

Bat Removal Questions from St. Cloud Homeowners
Can you remove bats from my St. Cloud home in June?
Not with exclusion devices. June falls inside Florida’s bat maternity season, which runs April 15 to August 15, and pups cannot fly yet. We can inspect, document the entry points and seal every opening the colony is not using. The final exclusion is scheduled for right after August 15, so the bats are out before they settle in for winter.
Do the older houses near downtown St. Cloud get bats more often?
In our experience, yes. Homes along and near 13th Street have aged wood fascia, older attic vents and roof additions that leave small gaps. Bats only need a narrow crack to get in. That said, we also find colonies in newer homes in Osceola County, usually behind a loose ridge vent or tile edge.
Will the bats just move to another part of my house?
They will try if any gap is left open. That is why we seal the secondary openings before the one-way devices go up. When the bats drop out to feed, the only routes back are the ones we have already closed. A partial job almost always ends with bats in a different wall.
Is bat guano in my attic dangerous?
It can be. Dried guano can carry fungal spores that become airborne when disturbed, and the smell soaks into insulation. Do not sweep or vacuum it with a household vacuum. We remove contaminated material, sanitize the area and can replace insulation where it is heavily soiled, after the colony is fully excluded.
